The building that the senior center is in has been around for a very long time. It's been here since the early 1900's. The building that the senior center is in hasn't always been a senior center, it used to house other things. In the early part of the building's existance, it used to be a church and even some of the seniors that go in the center remember some about being in the church. Also it used to be owned by the Legion. They mainly operated in the basement of the building and they rarely used the top part of it for anything. In the '80's, the Alliance on Aging took this building and bought it from the Legion and they decided to turn it into a senior center. At this time, the center was not a nonprofit organization. It wasn't till 1993 till it became a nonprofit organization and that the people working there decided to withdraw from the alliance and become a lone senior center in Prunedale.
