Not all dance Company members are dancers. This year we have five members on the tech crew. Without these members the show could not go on.
The technical crew is in charge of the set design, lighting, sound, curtains and calling cues for our dance performances. Many skills are required to do these tasks. One must have an understanding of or be wiling to learn electrical applications and a comprehensive ability in carpentry. The dancers must be respectful to them and be willing to listen to their suggestions and commands.
The tech crew have built and painted elaborate sets involving castles, complete with a draw bridge and painted a Route 66 set. This year they are in charge of recording all the master audio tapes for the shows.
During our upcoming school dance shows they will run the sound system, create light moods for each scene and dance, learn the light board, run the curtain system, be in charge of calling cues for the dancers and generally facilitate what goes on backstage. The Tech Crew is the vital support behind the scenes for what you see on stage. Without them, the show would be challenging and pratically impossible to do.
Besides these "behind the scenes" responsibilities, many tech members have also played a part in the dance productions. They have been everything from a storyteller to a princess to a partner.
