Junior State of America: Speech and Debate Club

Advisor: Louann Baker

Meetings: Thursdays @ Lunch, Rm. 23

JSA stands for Junior State of America which is a national organization for young people started in the 1930's to give them a chance to experience government and public speaking before they enter adulthood. The organization is a mock government with all the "career opportunities" and seasonal assemblies with other chapters. Our school chapter focuses in on the speech and debate aspect and conducts its own debates encouraging audience participation during meetings and frequent, special tutorial debates. People who are interested in public speaking and perhaps one day becoming a lawyer or somehow involved in the government or legal system or who just like to have their ideas and beliefs heard would enjoy this club.
