| This is the First Official Invitation to American Groups in Recent History for an event sponsored and presented by China, signed by the Vice Governor of Hebei Provincial Government. Here is a translation of the Official Invitation. | Dear American High School Band Director,
It is a great pleasure to invite you and your band to attend the American Youth in
China Invitational High School Band Competition and Tour in March 2001. Hebei Province lies
in the great North China Plain by the Bohai Sea, has a population of 66 million, and covers an area of 187,700 square kilometers. Beijing, the national capital, is within its
boundary. Hebei was one of the earliest developed regions in China. Hebei possesses the largest
amount of historic sites under the state protection in China, and has developed many colorful
cultures and folk arts, such as acrobatics, martial arts, etc. Our Hebei International Economy
and Culture Exchange Center and Hebei Oriental International Travel Service are honored to sponsor
the American Youth in China Program. We will be very happy to arrange the cultural exchanges with Chinese youth and the
performances together. There are many opportunites for you and your students to learn more about China
and its people, especially to build up friendship between Chinese and American Youth. Vice Governor of Hebei Provincial Government Yang Qian |
