North County
Marching Band

The Marching Band and Colorguard in a Monterey Parade.(1999)

This is the Marching Band that plays the notes which seem to scream "Look at us". From the start of this musical legacy in Condor history, the students and band director had the heart needed to succeed. With many trips ranging from Colorado to Canada, the band had its share of exploring various destinations, but in 1996, the band had its big break through into community, national, and international fame. The band from Castroville, California, had been invited to come to Washington D.C., to perform for the Presidential Inauguration. With the support of the local community, this amazing trip was possible for this small town Marching Band, Colorguard, and Dance Company. Since then the band has traveled to Vancouver and Hawaii. This wonderful band has had the opportunity to experience so much, and this year they have been invited to experience yet another event. The Republic of China has asked for them to perform in many different activities. The Band and Colorguard is hoping that their performance will be able to be applauded in China.

The success would not have been possible without the true dedication of their beloved Band Director, Mr. D.L. Johnson. His perseverance to overcome obstacles, and obtain his goals is what put this band on the map. In his efforts to make North County's band all that they can be, he has given up an infinite amount of hours throughout the years. He teaches Jazz Band at 7 in the morning, Marching Band at 8, and gives up his weekends for Band Review Competitions. If you don't call this dedication, then what is?

Annual Homecoming Parade Routine.(2000)

Although it takes a dedicated Band Director to be successful, it also takes strong individuals willing to be lead to success. The North County Marching Band has over 140 members, ranging from Freshmen to Seniors. Each member brings their own individuality to the group, and their own musical abilities. They are extremely talented, and have a passion for music. They also wake up early each day to go to a morning class, and give up their Saturdays to be a part of the North County Marching Band.

This band does it all. They march in numerous parades, competitions, music concerts, and does pep band at the North County football games. The band always makes its presence known, with their great sound, group spirit, and overall support.

Also, with the grand entry the band makes at competitions, a special section of the band can not be overlooked. The percussion section, who has their own competition, always ends a full day of competition with an upbeat, wonderfully played piece of music. With their drums and instruments, they leave the competition on a positive beat.
