Learning Expectation

Acquire a basic working knowledge of the computer

  •  Demonstrate touch typing skills and correct keyboarding techniques.
  •  Use correct comoputer terminology.
  •  Identify PC/Compatible computer parts
  •  Demonstrate knowledge of software.
  •  Demonstrate knowledge of letter-key operation
  •  Demonstrate technique mastery by speed acquisitions.
  •  Demonstrate knowledge of numerical, symbols and function keys.
     

 Demonstrate speed and accuracy on straight copy

  •   36 words a minute for 3 minutes with five or fewer errors.
     

Key-straight copy materials using proper touch techniques for five minutes

  •   Minimum of 40 words a minute with fewer than five errors
Demonstrate an ability to understand profreaders's marks
  •  Making appropriate corrections in text copy
  •  Proofreader's marks
  •  Attractive display of information
  •  Proper spacing between parts of documents
  •  Proper word division
  •  Appropriate use of abbreviations and numbers
  •  Undetectable corrections
  •  Correct capitalization
  •  Correct spelling
Demonstrate the ability to center documents horizontally and vertically.
  •  Center lists, menus and announcements
Demonstrate the ability to format standard and simplified memos from printed handwritten and unarranged copy
  •  Students will prepare a memo unassisted by the instructor which reflects competency of :
    •  Margins
    •  Format
    •  Accuracy
    •  Text edited
Demonstrate the abilty to format personal and business letter in block and modified block style
  •  Key a block letter unassisted by the instructor which reflects competency of:
    • Margins
    • Format
    • Accuracy
    • Text edited
Demonstrate basic formatting skills on single page and multipage unbound reports
  •  Report with intermal citations
  •  Reference page
  •  Main, side and paragraph headings
  •  Endnotes
  •  Footnotes
  •  Title page
  •  Table of contents
     
     

Demonstrate the ability to format and key tables as Two-column tables with titles

  •  Tables with subtitles and numbers
  •  Tables with blocked columns headings
  •  Ruled tables
  •  Three-column tables with multiple features
  •  Tables with totals and footnotes
     

Compose and format a resume, letter of application, and interview follow-up letter

  • Students will prepare a letter of application and resume unassisted by the instuctor which reflects competency of:
    • Margins
    • Format
